COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – If comments made by Branch County Board of Commissioners Chair Ted Gordon during Monday’s meeting are any indication, it looks like commissioners are giving the idea of privatizing 911 operations the cold shoulder.
At the request of commissioners, County Administrator Bud Norman researched what IXP Corporation of Princeton, New Jersey had to offer. If hired, the company would manage 911 operations and employees would work directly for them.
It was noted during last Thursday’s work session that 911 is funded at 53 percent for active employees pensions and that 911 is self-funded through a millage and call surcharges.
Gordon noted that privatization in certain government entities has not worked and he was really opposed to it.
Commissioners decided to table the matter after reviewing some of the county issues last Thursday and no action will be taken at this time.
