ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A man had to be rescued after being trapped 55 feet off the ground in a tree trimming bucket truck Monday afternoon when the truck touched a power line and caught on fire west of Angola.
Angola Fire Department Public Information Officer T.R. Hagerty says firefighters were called to 3121 West Shady Side Road south of Crooked Lake at around 1:30 p.m..
The truck came in contact with a 7,200 volt power line causing the body and boom of the truck to catch on fire. The truck lost all hydraulic power because of the fire.
Operator Robert Cook was trapped in the bucket and had to be rescued by a Fremont Fire Department ladder truck. Cook had to crawl out of the bucket and onto the ladder. He was treated at the scene by Steuben County E.M.S..
The hydraulic lines on the truck burned through and caused a large hydraulic oil spill.
The fire was called under control at around 2:00 p.m.. Firefighters remained on the scene until just after 5:00 p.m
