ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says the body of a woman found in 1999 has been identified as Tina Cabanaw of Detroit. She had been reported as missing to Detroit Police a few months before a decomposed body was found in a field northeast of Angola
On September 6, 1999, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a body being discovered in the field, about 2.5 miles east of I-69, and just north of CR 200 N. The location is the present day Glendarin Golf Course.
The Sheriff’s Office says the body had been in the field for approximately 6-8 weeks before being discovered.
While the body was never identified at the time it was found, a recently found DNA match between Cabanaw and her daughter confirmed her identity.
At the time the body of Cabanaw was found, the cause of death was ruled undetermined, but highly suspicious.
