BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack told the Bronson City Council last week that the construction manager for the new Branch County Jail wants the work to begin in September.
Pollack said the new jail will run north and south, and will be next to the County Animal Shelter, after Clark Construction told county officials to put the jail where it would be the most advantageous to the Sheriff’s Department.
The Sheriff said all of the infrastructure that will be installed will support an expansion of the jail if the county decided to move in that direction.
Until the new jail is built, the old jail is being used by the county, and Pollack said it was “just falling apart”. He reported there were still pipe and roof leaks. In addition, a cell door block caught on fire recently, which left a hole between cells and required $2,000 worth of repairs.
