COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of the four defendants accused by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office of being involved in a plot to kidnap, rape and kill a randomly selected child is scheduled to enter a plea Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
Two cases have been filed against 20-year-old Jayme LaPoint of Athens.
She was originally charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, child abusive commercial activity, using computers to commit a crime and distribution and promotion of child abusive commercial activity almost a year ago in a child sex and pornography case. Court documents indicate the alleged victim in the case is a two-year-old girl Lapoint was babysitting.
Counts two, three and four were filed for her alleged use of a cell phone to send video to her husband of the sex acts.
LaPoint, along with Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, David Lee Bailey of Coldwater, and Talia Renee Furman of Springfield, were all charged by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office in September 2018 following a Michigan State Police investigation.
