COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A video arraignment was held on Thursday in Branch County District Court for a Coldwater man with a 25 year criminal record who is facing six charges following alleged domestic incidents involving a female acquaintance in July 2018.
44-year-old Michael Christman is facing four counts of criminal sexual conduct in connection with accusations he allegedly raped the woman. Charges of unlawful imprisonment and using a weapon to commit a felony were also filed by prosecutors.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for July 23 with a preliminary exam set for July 30, 2019.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, Christman is currently serving a sentence of 15 to 24 months in the Muskegon Correctional Facility on charges of resisting, assaulting or obstructing a police officer and escape from lawful custody after he got into a fight with police last August at a apartment on Coldwater’s east side.
After he was taken into custody, Christman tried to escape but was captured a short distance away. His earliest release date from prison is January 23, 2020.
