COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Rising gas prices, including in the Coldwater area, are causing sticker shock for drivers. Gas prices across Michigan have jumped over the last couple of days and AAA Michigan says the higher prices are expected to hang around at least through the rest of this month.
The auto club says the national average has gone up a dime in the past two weeks, driven in part by higher gas taxes in 13 states.
A hurricane which is affecting Gulf Coast refineries is also being blamed for more pain at the pump.
The website GasBuddy.com says the state’s average price shot up by eight-cents a gallon on Wednesday to $2.87.
One station in Plymouth was selling gas at a jaw dropping $3.39 a gallon.
GasBuddy app users report the lowest gas price in the state as of early Thursday morning was $2.40 at a station in Battle Creek.
While a spike in prices has not taken place at some stations in the area, a few Coldwater stations raised gas prices to $2.99 a gallon Thursday.
