MOUNT, PLEASANT, MI (WTVB) – Six Central Michigan University student-athletes, including a Coldwater High School graduate were named a Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the league Wednesday.
Two Chippewas, Logan Targgart of the men’s track and field team and Rachel Vieira of the softball team, each received the prestigious honor the third consecutive year.
Targgart is a junior from Coldwater who is majoring in personal finance and carries a 3.78 grade point average. Vieira is a senior biology major from Clarkston with a 3.83 GPA.
Other CMU student-athletes to earn the honor are Megan O’Neil and Cali Stemple of the women’s track and field team, Zach Gilles of the baseball team, and AJ Frens of the men’s track and field team.
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is an award in its fifth year given to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. The honorees, 106 in this case, are the best of the best as selected by the faculty athletic representatives of each of the MAC’s 12 fulltime institutions.
