(COLDWATER) – (WTVB) – The building that used to be the home of Coldwater Recreation Lanes at 559 East Chicago was destroyed in a Wednesday morning fire.
Coldwater firefighters were dispatched just after 5:00 a.m. and were forced to immediately fight the flames from a defensive position as the fire consumed the building.
Traffic on U.S. 12 between Michigan Avenue and Willowbrook Road had to be shut down until mid morning.
Aerial trucks from the Bronson and Quincy fire departments assisted Coldwater firefighters.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
After the flames were put out, smoke from the smoldering ruins could still be seen several hours after the fire broke out.
Coldwater Recreation Lanes was in the process of being demolished after shutting down earlier this year. Plans called for a new Coldwater Dairy Queen store to be constructed on the site.
No damage was reported at the nearby building which houses Family Video and Cottage Inn Pizza.
