HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Jonesville man entered into a plea agreement with Hillsdale County prosecutors on Monday after he struck and killed a teenager in a drunk driving crash just over a year ago.
The Hillsdale Daily News reports 21-year-old Seth Magda entered a no contest plea to a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death which carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years. Sentencing has been scheduled for August 12, 2019.
In exchange for Magda’s plea, prosecutors will drop charges of second-degree murder, reckless driving causing death and voluntary manslaughter.
Magda is being held without bond in the Hillsdale County Jail.
The Michigan State Police say 16-year-old Braxton Petrie of Jonesville was struck by a vehicle on the night of June 19, 2018 on Mosherville Road near Borden Road.
Petrie later died from his injuries at Hillsdale Hospital.
