CLEAR LAKE, IN (WTVB) – More specialized equipment is expected to arrive on Saturday as the search for a missing wakesurfer who apparently drowned continues in Clear Lake just south of the Michigan-Indiana state line.
The wakesurfer was reported missing at 6:42 p.m. Thursday night after a caller told Steuben County 911 the victim fell into the water and did not resurface.
Divers searched the area where the wakesurfer was last seen, but have been unable to locate the victim.
Clear Lake residents and visitors are being told to stay out of the East Bay area until the body is recovered. The Clear Lake Marina boat ramp is also closed while the search is being conducted.
Sonar equipment was brought in Friday to help with the search. After an all-day search proved fruitless, it was decided to call off the search early Friday evening to allow first responders to get some much-needed rest.
The Steuben County Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team which is made up of members from various emergency services is helping Indiana Conservation Officers with the search.
Also assisting are the Angola and Fremont Fire Departments, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Fremont Police, Clear Lake Police and Steuben County EMS.
