INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WKZO AM/FM) – Top-seeded University of Michigan is moving on to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Hunter Dickinson and Brandon Johns Jr. each had 14 points as the Wolverines foiled fourth-seeded Florida State 76-58 in the Sweet 16 in Indianapolis. Franz Wagner added 13 points and 10 boards for U-of-M, which will play UCLA in an Elite Eight match-up Tuesday.
The Elite Eight field for the NCAA Tournament is set and it features three teams from the Pac-12. Sixth-seeded USC and 11th-seeded UCLA both punched their tickets to the next round with Sweet 16 wins Sunday.
The Bruins beat two-seed Alabama 88-78 in overtime to earn their first trip to the Elite Eight since 2008. The Trojans topped conference foe Oregon 82-68 for their first Elite Eight appearance since 2001.
Elsewhere, top-overall-seed Gonzaga kept its perfect season alive with an 83-65 rout of Creighton. The Elite Eight gets going today with 12th-seeded Oregon State squaring off with second-seeded Houston. Top-seeded Baylor will then battle third-seeded Arkansas.
