LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Michigan group lobbying to allow students to play winter contact sports in Michigan has sent another letter to the state health department to ease restrictions on students. It comes as COVID-19 case rates connected with children and teenagers are currently among the highest of all age groups in the state.
On Monday, ‘Let Them Play Michigan’ challenged the authority of the state to require student-athletes to be tested for COVID-19 and quarantined as needed. Beginning Friday, April 2nd, students will have to be tested before any practices and competitions.
A spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says they are reviewing the letter and plan to respond sometime later this week.
