STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St Joseph Community Health Agency has announced they will conduct two special vaccine clinics in Sturgis which will provide individuals and families who may have been exposed to measles and are either unvaccinated or unsure about their vaccine status with an opportunity to receive the MMR vaccine.
The vaccine clinics will take place Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Sturgis WIC office at 1555 East Chicago Road and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Church on South Nottawa in Sturgis.
The health agency will also accept appointment and walk-ins for the MMR vaccine in the Three Rivers Office during normal business hours.
The C.H.A. with support from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the potential exposure to measles in the Sturgis area.
As reported by the Indiana State Department of Health a confirmed case of measles, unrelated to the current Michigan outbreak in Oakland and Wayne Counties, was considered contagious at the time that person was in Sturgis.
Individuals who visited Holy Angels Catholic Church, San Miguel Grocery and the Walmart Supercenter in Sturgis on March 31st may have been exposed.
They are urged to watch for signs of measles and to seek the measles vaccine if they are unvaccinated. If symptoms develop, residents are urged to call their doctor or emergency room before arriving so they can take precautions to prevent exposure to other individuals.
