COLON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A bridge removal project on M-66 near Colon is expected to affect traffic for seven months.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that crews will begin removing the bridge over the abandoned New York Central Railroad near the M-86 junction west of Colon next Monday, April 15th.
A tenth of a mile of new road will be constructed.
M-66 will be closed in the area throughout the construction which is scheduled to last until November 15th.
Traffic will be detoured onto M-86 as well as onto Farrand and Colon Roads.
MDOT says removing the bridge will significantly improve winter road conditions and eliminate the costs of bridge maintenance.
