COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A conceptual design for the new Branch County Jail was presented to the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Tuesday morning.
There is still a lot to be done before ground is scheduled to broken this summer. It’s hoped the new facility will be ready late in the summer of 2020, after Branch County voters approved a 20-year millage last August.
Architect Joe Mrak from Securiture said the concept design came about after two days of meetings last month with nearly 30 county staff members.
The meetings left the architects with a lots of options of how and where the jail will be built on property near the current lock up.
Mrak said they can’t make a final determination as to where the building will be located until they complete a site survey and a soil boring report.
Commissioners voted to bring forward to Friday’s meeting formal action on bids for geotechnical and survey services.
