CALEDONIA, MI (WTVB) – Another very successful high school basketball season came to an end for the Coldwater Lady Cardinals Wednesday night as they suffered a 51-41 loss to DeWitt in the regional championship game in Caledonia.
Coldwater scored off the opening tip but then turned the ball over on their next six possessions as they fell behind 11-6 after the first quarter and were unable to recover. DeWitt built a 28-17 lead at the half. Coldwater came back in the third quarter and trailed 38-31 entering the final eight minutes. But DeWitt put the game away with a 13-10 fourth quarter.
Tyler Scheid led the Cardinal attack with 14 points and eight rebounds. Carlee Crabtree added 10 points while Olivia Foley had a team high eight rebounds.
Coldwater finishes the year with a record of 22-2. The Cardinals had an impressive 44-5 mark over the last two years which included an undefeated conference championship and consecutive trips to the regional finals.
DeWitt improves to 23-2 and will face Muskegon in next Tuesday’s quarterfinal.
