CROOKED LAKE, IN (WTVB) – After a pair of dogs had to be rescued when they fell through the ice in the third basin of Crooked Lake Friday morning, the Angola Fire Department asked residents to use extreme caution over the next few days as temperatures rise and ice conditions quickly deteriorate.
The dogs were returned safely to their owner. An alert neighbor reported the situation to authorities around 9:15 a.m.
Angola Fire officials say one dog had almost made it to shore when firefighters arrived but the other was stranded and treading water about 50 yards out.
Once rescue personnel got to the dog, they managed to clip a rope to its collar and brought it back to shore.
Fire officials point out that if the ice can’t hold a dog it probably can’t hold you.
