COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In girls high schol basketball, Coldwater closed out their regular season with a convincing 73-35 win over SMAC East Champion Portage Central Thursday night.
Coldwater opened the night hitting three consecutive 3-pointers to break out to a 9-0 lead and shot 13 of 24 overall from 3-point land. Olivia Foley with 13 points led a balanced scoring attack that saw every player on the roster score. Kelsi Herlan scored a career high 11 points to go along with three rebounds. Carlee Crabtree also scored 11 points.
Coldwater finishes the regular season at 19-1 and will open state tournament play next Wednesday against the winner of Monday’s Battle Creek Lakeview/Gull Lake game. Wednesday’s game at Sturgis starts at 6:00 p.m..
Coldwater and Portage Central split the underclassmen games. The Mustangs won the J.V. contest 30-23 as Coldwater finished 11-5. Marissa Cox had five points while Allison Miller had eight rebounds.
Coldwater won the freshman game 46-39. Anna DeMeester was 14-of-18 at the line as she finished with 24 points. The Coldwater freshman finished 14-0.
Bronson 49, Athens 36
Bronson finished the regular season 15-5 with a 49-36 victory over Athens. After leading 23-21 at halftime, the Vikings broke open the game with a 13-5 third quarter. Keona Salesman led the Vikings with 21 points.
Quincy 35, Waldron 31
Quincy used a 15-9 fourth quarter to defeat Waldron 35-31 and finish the regular season 10-10. Katie Rathbun led the Orioles with 13 points while Madison Hinds grabbed seven rebounds.
