BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals split their two games on Saturday in the annual Pat Lowe Memorial Tournament.
Mattawan used a seven run second inning to defeat Coldwater 11-1 and hand the Cardinals their first loss of the season.
The only Cardinal run came in the last of the fourth on an RBI ground out by Nate Tappenden.
The Cardinals bounced back to defeat Spring Lake 6-2 thanks to a three run first inning. Brock Thornton drove in a pair of runs while Logan Farmer had three hits and drove in a run. Nate Tappenden had an RBI single while Cole Heineman had an RBI ground out. Carter Bordner pitched three innings to get credit for the win. Coldwater’s record is now 5-1.
Union City lost to Constantine 4-2 and to Sand Creek 4-3 at the Chargers Invitational Alumni Field which was sponsored by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust.
Owen Jackson had three hits for the Chargers against Constantine while Kyle Johnson struck out seven in five innings of work. Johnson had two hits in the loss to Sand Creek.
