COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved an amendment to the city’s drug paraphernalia ordinance Monday night that would keep the city in line with the state’s public health code.
City Attorney Megan Angell says the amendment would expand the exceptions to the local ordinance, which covers the possession, use, manufacturing and sale of marijuana paraphernalia to the extent that it is now permitted by state law for those over the age of 21.
She explained to Council members other types of paraphernalia are still illegal.
The original city ordinance covering drug paraphernalia was adopted in 2008.
Angell said in her memo to the Council the ordinance provides police officers with an important means of responding to methamphetamine pipes, hypodermic needles and other items used to ingest and manufacture dangerous drugs.
