COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three days after the mercury dipped to 18 degrees below zero, the temperature at the Branch County Memorial Airport hit 50 degrees at about noon on Sunday.
The 68 degree temperature swing in just three days came after a two week stretch of some wicked weather.
It started January 19 with a six to eight inch snowfall.
That was followed by a couple of mornings in which the temperature dropped to fifteen degrees below zero.
Then there was freezing rain, snow and temperatures warming into the low 40s.
Another five inches of snow fell last Monday and then came the polar voltex where the temperature dropped to below zero for 48 hours. Record low temperatures were set last Wednesday and Thursday.
According to www.accuweather.com, Coldwater recorded 22 inches of snow during January. After all of the temperature swings, the temperature in Coldwater averaged out to being two degrees below normal for the month.
