ORLAND, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash which took place early Sunday night east of Orland.
They say the driver of a 2012 Fiat 500 crossed the center line and sideswiped a Freightliner semi tractor trailer on State Road 120 near 700 North just before 7:00 p.m..
The Fiat driver was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. Deputies say it appears the fatal victim was not wearing a seat belt. Responding deputies found the deceased driver’s vehicle upside down.
The name of the fatal victim has not been released pending notification of relatives. The Sheriff’s Department says it’s believed alcohol was a factor in the accident.
The driver of the Freightliner, 60-year-old Bartholomew Tinder of Waldron, was not injured.
