MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s boys and girls basketball teams both swept their season series against the Marshall Redhawks. The Cardinal boys won at Marshall 57-48 behind 18 points and 6 rebounds from our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Dylan Targgart, and 15 points and 8 board frim Gage McGuire.
Coldwater led 32-25 at the half, but Marshall cut the lead to within one late in the third quarter. That’s when Spencer Rodesiler unleashed a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the frame. The Redhawks, who were led by Jeremy Luciani’s 18 points, would get no closer. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 11-2 overall, 8-1 in the Interstate 8 with a half-game lead on Parma Western, whose game at Pennfield was postponed.
Coldwater’s girls improved to 12-1 overall and 9-0 in the Interstate 8 thanks to a close 53-47 win at Marshall. By comparison, the Cardinals beat the Redhawks by 33 back on December 14th. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Carlee Crabtree, led all scorers with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Tyler Scheid added 14 points and 5 boards.
Over at Quincy, the Orioles swept their twinbill against cross-county conference rival Union City. The Oriole boys blew open a 26-21 game at the half by outscoring the Chargers 31-14 the rest of the way as Quincy prevailed 57-36. William Dunn led all scorers with 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks; teammate Caleb McVavit added 19 points and 9 boards as the Orioles improved to a perfect 13-0 overall, 9-0 in the Big 8. The Chargers, who drop to 8-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big 8, were led by Larson Kever with 20 points and 9 boards.
Quincy’s girls basketball team held Union City to 10 points or fewer in ever quarter as the O’s defeat the Chargers 47-29. Katie Rathbun had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Jessica Holcomb had 8 points and 15 boards as Quincy improves to 6-5 overall, 3-4 in the Big 8. Logan Allen had 13 points and 9 rebounds as the Chargers slip to 1-10 overall, 0-7 in the Big 8.
Bronson split their games at Jonesville. The Comets won the boys game 41-33. Brett Sikorski led the Vikings with 9 points; they drop to 1-12 overall, 1-7 in the Big 8.
Kiera Lasky’s late free throws helped Bronson to sneak out of Jonesville with a 50-47 win. Keona Salesman had 16 points, Kiera Lasky scored 14, and Alanna Mayer had 10 as the Lady Vikings improve to 8-4 overall, 7.1 in the Big 8.

On today’s schedule: Conference tournaments in wrestling are on the docket, with Coldwater going to Northwest for the Interstate 8 meet and Bronson hosting Quincy, Union City, and the rest of the Big 8 for their tournament. In gymastics, Coldwater is at the Canton Invitational. In competitive cheer, Coldwater is at the Harper Creek Invitational. Tomorrow in bowling, Coldwater and Bronson travel to Sturgis Bowl for the Trojan Invitational.
