COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The polar vortex has released its grip but there could a new problem with a rapid rise in temperatures this weekend.
Temperatures are supposed to start rising Friday night and National Weather Service forecasters say they could near 50 by Monday, which means melting ice and snow could cause serious flooding issues.
You could also see pot holes develop.
Bitter cold temperatures led to new record lows in Coldwater over the last couple of days. A new record of 14 below was set for January 30 Wednesday night. The old record for January 31 was broken by seven degrees Thursday with a morning low of 18 degrees below zero.
The temperature at the Branch County Memorial Airport got above zero at 10:30 p.m. Thursday night following 48 hours of below zero readings.
