GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Rescue crews had to be called out to Morrison Lake Tuesday morning after a boat sank in the area of Union City Road and Waffle Drive.
A nearby resident told Branch County 911 they could hear a man calling for help.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler says a man was fishing at about 3:00 a.m. when his boat sank in about 20 feet of water about 400 feet off shore after he apparently forgot to put the plugs in his boat.
The man managed to get to shore as the Branch County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team, the Marine Patrol, the Michigan State Police, Life Care Ambulance and the Coldwater Fire Department arrived.
Eichler says the man was eventually booked at the Branch County Jail for operating while intoxicated while driving a boat.
