UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A fire in a two story home east of Union City Sunday afternoon is being investigated by the Fire Marshal division of the Michigan State Police after a deceased adult male was found inside by Union City firefighters.
The fire on Creamery Road near Union City Road was reported at 4:11 p.m.. State Police say a passerby saw smoke coming from a residence and flagged down a Union City Police Department officer. Officer Travis Ferry responded to the house and confirmed there was a fire inside.
Union City Fire Chief Dave Hughes says there was heavy smoke and flames coming out of some windows when firefighters arrived.
The Michigan State Police, Fire Marshall, and K9 services were also sent to the scene. Burlington firefighters provided mutual aid.
The identity of the deceased man and the possible cause of death have yet to be confirmed. State Police say an autopsy is scheduled to take place on Monday.
The cause of the fire is also still under investigation. No other victims were located and there were no reported injuries from the fire department.
Firefighters cleared the scene at about 9:30 p.m..
