COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a request Monday night from Prairie Built Barns of Coldwater to consider a Special Land Use Permit for a portion of the Willowbrook Plaza.
City Planner Dean Walrack says Prairie Built Barns is requesting permission to use a portion of parking lot to display the sheds which they design and sell from a Willowbrook Plaza suite. He says the parking lot of the Willowbrook Plaza exceeds current minimum regulations. In addition, Walrack says the portion where the sheds would be located is rarely used and is the furthest from the building.
Also on Monday’s agenda will be a request to rezone a quarter acre of land at 120 and 122 South Jefferson from A-2 One and Two-Family Residential District to C-1 Community Business District.
Walrack says the land was purchased by applicant Abdulhameed Nasser in June of 2019. The site is vacant after it previously operated as the Coldwater Bible Chapel religious assembly. Nassar plans to operate a convenience grocery and specialty goods store on the property which is located at South Jefferson and Perkins.
He has presented a petition with 52 signatures in support of his proposed business but the city staff is recommending the petition be turned down by the Planning Commission because it exemplifies spot zoning.
