MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is being held in the Calhoun County Jail after he threatened a teen while he was intoxicated and armed with a shotgun.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police troopers were sent to the 15000 block of 15 Mile Road near F Drive North in Marshall Township just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after a report that a 41-year-old man was assaulting a 14-year-old family member.
The suspect was reportedly going in and out of the residence and discharged a weapon outside of the home a number of times. Authorities say the man also attempted to kick down the door to get to the teen and made several threats that he was going to shoot officers.
While officers were on scene the suspect retreated to a bedroom where it was reported there was a gun safe with several other firearms.
Deputies were able to safely evacuate all other occupants in the home as the suspect refused to communicate with on scene authorities.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Special Response Team responded and was able to make contact with the man. He was taken into custody a short time later without incident.
The suspect is currently being held in the Calhoun County Jail awaiting review of various weapon and assault charges.
The teen was not injured during the incident.
