COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – More grim news from the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday as they announced five more prisoners statewide have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
One of the prisoners who died Monday was at the Lakeland Correctional Facility bringing the death toll at the prison in Coldwater up to 13.
It also marks the fifth straight day the M.D.O.C. has announced the death of a Lakeland prisoner.
Expanded testing on over 1,400 prisoners at Lakeland concluded late last week. There were 785 positive tests while 618 were negative.
The M.D.O.C. says 38 prisoners and two staff members from around the state have died from the virus.
