COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Expanded testing at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater shows that over half of the prison population has tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Department of Corrections reported on Saturday that an 11th prisoner at Lakeland has died from coronavirus. It’s the third straight day a Lakeland prisoner death has been reported by state corrections officials.
There have been a total of 31 deaths of Michigan prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19.
The M.D.O.C. conducted 1,411 coronavirus tests at Lakeland with 777 prisoners testing positive while 602 others were negative.
Test results on 32 prisoners are pending while 15 prisoners who previously tested positive are in a step down unit since they are no longer considered contagious.
The M.D.O.C. reports 31 staff members at Lakeland have tested positive.
