COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The restrooms at the Michigan Welcome Center on I-69 in Branch County will be closed from Saturday through May 10 as the result of Michigan Department of Transportation employees who clean and sanitize the facility being laid off.
In addition, the restrooms at MDOT’s Sault Ste. Marie, Monroe, New Buffalo and Detroit Welcome Centers will be closed for the two-week period.
While the restrooms are closed at the Branch County facility, MDOT says the ramps and parking lots will be closed as well due to security and sanitary concerns.
The restrooms are expected to reopen Monday, May 11.
Most of the state’s other 63 rest areas remain open at this time. MDOT’s roadside parks, which are closed seasonally, remain closed at this time.
MDOT closed the information lobbies of all Michigan Welcome Centers March 13 until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
