COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Yet another local event has been cancelled for this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers for Coldwater’s River Through Time and Civil War Days living history event, which was scheduled to be held in Heritage Park over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, announced on Tuesday the 2020 event has been canceled.
Event Chair Jacquie Astling says the decision by the Board and Committee was one of its toughest ones they have had to make.
They decided to cancel the event due to the coronavirus pandemic and all of its negative impacts on the community and the country.
Astling says because of the pandemic, too many jobs have been lost and businesses have closed which has caused their funding to be severely impacted.
Astling also stated the events main purpose is to educate youth with hands on experiences. With schools closed until fall, they would not be able to serve their main purpose.
In addition, with the overall uncertainty of what will happen in the near future, it has made planning and preparing nearly impossible.
Astling concluded by saying they look forward to 2021 and hope to put on a great event next year when the pandemic will be a page in a history book.
