UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Strides were being made on converting the former Putnam Funeral Home building in Union City into the Union City Senior Center before the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing Stay Home, Stay Safe order was issued in Michigan.
While work has slowed down, village officials are hopeful the grass roots community-driven project can stay on track.
Village Council Trustee and Senior Center Chair Steve Searls has cleaned up the floors and added primer to the walls.
The Senior Center committee also approved purchases of new interior ceiling material and work to be done.
Plans for new lighting are also moving forward.
The Senior Center has also received help from organizations such as the Union City Rotary and American Legion Post 196.
