COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The COVID-19 death toll at the Lakeland Correctional Facility continues to climb.
The Michigan Department of Corrections reported on its web site Friday night that a fourth prisoner at the Coldwater facility has died from the virus.
A total of 17 prisoners in M.D.O.C. facilities have died from COVID-19. Other deaths on Friday were reported at the Detroit Reentry Center, the Parnall Correctional Facility near Jackson and the Macomb Correctional Facility.
Lakeland currently has the second highest amount of prisoners with COVID-19 in any of the M.D.O.C. facilities. Out of 113 prisoners who have been tested, 96 have tested positive while 17 tests were negative.
The number of Lakeland staff members who have tested positive is now at 24 which is also the second highest in the D.O.C. system.
The Parnall Correctional Facility continues to have the most COVID-19 cases among Michigan’s prisons. There have been 164 prisoners cases along with 66 cases involving members of the staff.
