COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Charles Burr, who has been the Artistic Director of the professional summer stock theater program at the Tibbits Opera House for the past three decades, will be retiring when the 2020 summer theatre program ends.
Burr will continue to do freelance acting and directing. Peter Riopelle will take over the role of Artistic Director. He began his career at Tibbits as an actor in 1992. Riopelle will work alongside Burr this summer and assume full Artistic Director duties for the summer of 2021.
Burr’s ties with Tibbits started in 1982 when he was first hired as an actor.
The native of Plymouth, Michigan studied under Gloria Logan, who is a longtime Tibbits Summer Theatrer favorite. Between his seasonal duties at Tibbits he has worked as actor and director at theatres throughout Michigan and across the United States.
This summer’s offerings at the Tibbits will feature Ain’t Misbehavin, Annie, Man of LaMancha and A Comedy of Tenors.
