COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals won three games on Saturday at Pat Lowe Field in their annual Stout and Sons baseball tournament.
The Cardinals defeated DeWitt 9-4, Haslett 7-1 and Auburn Hills Avondale 10-0.
Coldwater broke a 2-2 tie in the last of the third against DeWitt by scoring three runs highlighted by a two run double by Brynden Massey and added four insurance runs in the fourth. Nate Tappenden was the winning pitcher. Massey drove in three runs while Brock Thornton had two RBI’s.
The Cardinals led Haslett 2-0 in the last of the fifth when they scored five runs to break the game open. Brady McFarland had a two run double during the big inning. Massey was the starting pitcher and was credited with the win.
Aiden Marsden was the winning pitcher against Avondale. The game was shortened to five innings because of the 10 run mercy rule. Tappenden delivered a three run double during a six run fourth inning. Thornton drove in two runs while Cole Barker had two hits including a double.
The three wins improved Coldwater’s record to 17-5. They will host Jackson Lumen Christi in an Interstate 8 doubleheader on Tuesday.
