BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings came back from a halftime deficit to defeat Jonesville 49-38 while the Quincy Orioles romped past arch rival Reading 49-25 on the opening night of the MHSAA.Girls Basketball Division Three District Tournament at Bronson Monday night.
The host Vikings were down 19-14 at halftime but turned the game around in the third quarter when they outscored Jonesville 17-6 to take a 31-25 lead into the final quarter. Bronson put the contest away with a 18-13 final quarter.
Alanna Mayer led Bronson with a game-high 16 points while Keona Salesman finished with 12 points. The Vikings will face Union City in the first district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Quincy scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back in their win over the Rangers. The Orioles defensive pressure prevented Reading from scoring a field for the first 12 minutes of the game. Quincy built a 27-13 halftime lead and were never threatened after intermission.
Maddie Hinds scored a game-high 17 points for Quincy while Elizabeth Schreur and Katie Rathbun each had eight points. The Orioles will play Homer in the second semifinal on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s winner meet for the District title at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night.
