COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s fiber optic network is being upgraded and when the improvements are finished in 2021, the speed and capacity of the system will put it the top five percent of such networks in the nation.
That’s according to Aspen Wireless, the company the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities hired last year for the upgrades to the system’s 1990’s technology.
Mike Reen of Coldwater, a project manager for Aspen, spoke last week at a meeting of the Coldwater Noon Rotary. He told members of the club the new system is built on a state of the art cutting edge design, adding that being in the top 95% is a conservative estimate of the network’s rating in the U.S.
The project was started in March 2019 and CBPU Director Jeff Budd said in November that the installation work for residents is expected to be finished in two years at a cost of over $4 million.
