COLDWAER, MI (WTVB) – Becoming healthier may be a New Year’s resolution for some people as a new year and a new decade begins this month, but as 2020 starts, it’s also a good time to develop a program for your financial health.
That’s the advice JoAnn Manchester, home loan officer at the Coldwater branch of Flagstar Bank, delivered at last week’s weekly meeting of the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club. Manchester, also the Secretary of the club, told the Rotarians Thursday that they should not only concentrate on their own financial fitness, but also on the young people that they encounter in their lives.
She said while we seem to be having an extraordinary economy booming, she also is seeing more and more young people who are having poor credit scores. According to Manchester, there are a lot of reasons, such as misuse of credit cards with charge accounts easily opened by the younger generation with larger banks marketing the cards including to the 20 to 30 year old age set.
Manchester urges parents to begin teaching their children money and budget planning in their early years and ask their schools to make it a part of their curriculum.
