COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An updated Branch County Master Plan is almost ready to be reviewed.
Patrick Hudson of the Southcentral Michigan Planning Council updated the Branch County Planning Commission on Wednesday that once the final draft is approved, there will be a 63 day review period followed by a public hearing.
The next meeting of the County Planning Commission is scheduled for September 1 and Chair Debbie Lounds thought the final draft will be ready before then.
In light of recent developments concerning alternative energy sources, Lounds felt townships should be reminded Branch County is still a big agricultural county.
The county’s Master Plan is being updated for the first time since 1993 thanks in large part to the controversy in recent years of proposed wind turbines in northwestern Branch County.
It was requested by the Concerned Citizens of Branch County who have been in opposition to the placement of the wind turbines for the last several years.
It’s also felt updating the Master Plan would benefit development and help communities with grant funding.
Funding for updating the Master Plan was approved by the Branch County Board of Commissioners in December of 2019.
