COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy area man was formally charged with a felony count of malicious destruction of police or fire property during an arraignment on Monday in Branch County District Court after a Michigan State Police vehicle was damaged during an incident over the holiday weekend.
29-year-old Richard Keith Barber is also facing a charge of operating while intoxicated/impaired second offense.
According to Branch County court documents, the State Police put Barber into custody after his vehicle crashed in a ditch on Adolph Road near Francisco Road in Union Township on Saturday.
A trooper put Barber in handcuffs and placed him in the front seat of his patrol unit. Court documents also state Barber was unable to complete field sobriety tests.
Barber is then alleged by authorities to have kicked out the front windshield causing damage to the vehicle.
Bond during Monday’s arraignment was set at $35,000. A probable cause hearing was set for July 15 with a preliminary exam on July 22.
