COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved an engineering budget of over $291,000 on Wednesday night for various projects that are needed to improve the city’s current water system.
The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Project Plan was approved last month by the Board.
B.P.U. Director Jeff Budd said while the projects did not qualify for funding through the Plan, they still need to be completed.
The road projects total about $1-point-7 million and are on Washington Street between Elm and Sprague, Perkins Street between Elm and Sprague and Michigan Avenue between U.S. 12 and Sauk River Road.
Improvements totaling about $1 million at the Water Treatment Plant would bring the total estimated project costs to $2.740 million.
Budd says the current plans would be to pay for these projects by issuing bonds and he felt with historically low interest rates, it makes sense to move forward with these projects to take advantage of the low cost financing.
In order to move forward, the projects have to be designed and engineered.
Budd told the Board the goal would be to have projects ready to bid by January of 2022 in order to receive the best pricing for the 2022 construction season.
