COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A North Adams man was formally charged with four counts in Branch County District Court on Friday after he allegedly threatened another man with a gun and then tried to run from police earlier in the day.
34-year-old Chad Alan Truitt, who had a previous listed address in Muskegon, was formally charged with receiving and concealing a stolen weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer as well as a felony firearms count.
According to Branch County Court documents, Truitt allegedly threatened a man who had given him a ride from Hastings. The alleged victim dropped Truitt off at the Speedway station at 524 East Chicago where Truitt said he was heading to a nearby hotel. Truitt was spotted by police on East Chicago near the I-69 overpass. He tried to make a run for it from Coldwater Police and the Michigan State Police but was captured and placed in custody behind Buffalo Wild Wings at about 5:00 a.m..
A handgun that Truitt allegedly had was later found by a Michigan State Police K-9 along the path he had run. A records check found the gun had been stolen.
Bond was set at $35,000. A probable cause hearing was set for July 20 with a preliminary exam on July 27.
