KANSAS CITY, MO (WTVB) – The Detroit Tigers begin a six-game road trip with a three-game set against the Royals in Kansas City tonight. Detroit heads into tonight’s action following a series sweep of the Chicago White Sox, while Kansas City has lost their last two.
In the opener, Anibal Sanchez gets the start for the Tigers and Danny Duffy heads to the hill for the Royals.
The Tigers are expected to start the September call ups by promoting pitcher Buck Farmer and catcher John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo. Farmer returns to the team for the sixth time, allowing seven runs on 13 hits over 16 innings in 10 relief appearances with Detroit this year. Hicks will be making his Tigers debut, but this marks his second MLB stint as he served as a backup catcher with the Mariners late last season.
More players will be called up after the Mud Hens finish their season Monday.
Detroit also announced minor league pitcher Warwick Saupold has been suspended for Toledo’s last five games for his role in a fight outside of a bar over the weekend. Saupold made his major league debut with the Tigers earlier this year.
