BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A bridge replacement project on South Angola Road has wrapped up over a month sooner than expected.
Branch County Road Commission Manager Jay Miller says the road, which is also known as Old U.S. 27, could re-open by Friday.
The road has been closed between Central and Paradine Roads in Ovid Township since July 5 so that the bridge over the Coldwater River could be replaced.
South Angola Road traffic has been detoured onto Central, Paradine and Fillmore Roads for over two months.
Miller says the $1.3 million project was originally scheduled to be finished by the end of October. He says the work is basically done and all that is left to do is the clean up along with the removal of the heavy pieces of equipment.
The local contribution for the bridge replacement was just under $923,000 which came through grant funds.
The bridge work was part of what was a busy summer for road construction work in Branch County.
