OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A building which contained storage units was destroyed in a fire that broke out Wednesday morning near the intersection of East Pearl Road and Old U.S. 27 north of Kinderhook.
Lakeland Fire Chief David Smith says the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal division is investigating the cause of the fire which was reported by several passing motorists at 7:13 a.m..
Those who reported the fire to Branch County 911 said flames were visible and there was billowing smoke that could be seen from I-69.
A full response was immediately requested from the Fremont, Indiana fire department while tankers and manpower was requested from the Bronson fire department.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department provided traffic control and the Branch County Road Commission set up barricades.
Smith says firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other nearby buildings.
No injuries were reported. The last crew cleared the scene at about 12:00 noon. A dollar amount on the damage had not been determined as of midday on Wednesday.
The owner of the business property, which is known as “Low Cost Storage”, is based in Florida.
