COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Property taxes for Coldwater City residents are expected to increase three tenths of a percent in 2016. That’s the word from Coldwater City manager Jeff Budd with the .3% hike based on the recently announced Inflation Rate Multiplier from the Michigan Department of Treasury. According to Budd, this is the second lowest increase since the start of Proposal A in 1995. Budd calls it good news for Coldwater property owners but adds that it does limit resources to provide services to residents.
The City Manager’s report to the City Council for their meeting coming up Monday night includes a reminder that Coldwater’s Trick-or-Treat will be on Halloween Saturday, October 31st from 5:00-6:30pm. Typically, this would be from 5:30-7:00 p.m., but it is being moved up to accommodate the Halloween Parade. This year the Parade will start at 7:30 p.m. that same night, with this year’s theme “Things that Glow in the Night”.
Also meeting in regular session Monday night are the Community Health Center of Branch County Board of Trustees and the Coldwater Board of Education. The CHC agenda includes the hospital board considering approval of the Health Center’s strategic partnership agreements with Toledo-based ProMedica Health Systems. If adopted, the management agreement with the non-profit firm would be forwarded for possible passage next month by the Branch County Board of Commissioners, which has the final say on the proposal that ultimately calls for the sale of the county-owned hospital in Coldwater to ProMedica. The acquisition would be completed by the end of 2018 or maybe earlier if the right conditions prevail.
