ATHENS, MI (WTVB) – Forensics tests are now confirming that it was a bullet that shattered the window of an SUV on Wednesday afternoon in rural Calhoun County. There are new reports that there may have been other shootings along M-66 near Athens that day that broke out other vehicle windows. It raises fears that a possible I-94/I-69 sniper, or some kind of copycat is active again.
The other broken windows were apparently cleaned up before the driver realized what had actually happened, spoiling the evidence. Calhoun County officials have yet to find any direct evidence that it is connected to a series of other suspected vehicle shootings that took place along the interstates this summer, but the investigation is ongoing.
Sheriff Matt Saxton says they are seeking search warrants but refused to elaborate.
