COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, last night in volleyball, in Big Eight Conference action, Quincy was a 3-0 winner at home over Athens. Mackenzie Moore had 14 kills and 4 blocks while Ali Silva had 17 assists and 3 aces. Quincy improved to 3-0 in the conference and 14-6-1 overall. Also in the Big 8, Union City beat visiting Springport 3-0. Haley McIntosh had 7 kills, Rachel Wing had 6 digs and Cassie Thorpe and Carley Robertson each had 7 assists. Union City is now 2-1 in league play with their overall record at 12-11-2.
Yesterday in Cross Country, Quincy hosted the first of 4 Big Eight Jamborees with the Quincy Girls finishing first with Union City eighth while on the Boys side, Quincy took second place with Union City eighth. In the Girls race, leading Quincy were Gabby Porter third, Haley Bean ninth and Katie Spalding tenth. Union City’s top runner was Marionna Bigelow in 2rd place. In the Boys race, for Quincy, Nathan Nohr finished fourth and Brandon Gary was sixth while for Union City, Grant Gay took tenth place.
And yesterday in Boys tennis, Bronson played to a 4-4 tie at home against Hillsdale. Winners for Bronson were Logan Kenny and Brett Sikorski at first and second singles along with Wyatt Valance and Brett Disbro at first doubles and Kaden Smith and Caleb Stayner at fourth doubles.
In junior varsity Boys soccer last night, Coldwater stayed undefeated with an 8-0 win at home over Kalamazoo Hackett. Mohsen Saleh led the scoring with 3 goals, Dominick Kelly added two goals and Mohamed Saleh and Shuaib Aljabaly added one goal apiece. The Cardinals outshot Hackett 25-0 while improving their record to 15-0.
And in Girls Golf, in a late posted result from last Saturday, Coldwater came in sixth place out of 11 teams in the Sturgis Invitational played at the Island Hills Golf Course. The tournament was divided into two divisions with Coldwater finishing second against the 5 teams in the Black Division with Claire Sheppard the medalist after shooting a career best round of 95.
And in Girls junior varsity golf, Coldwater competed in their last jamboree of the season Monday at the Binder Park Golf Course with Micki Slack the lone representative for the Lady Cardinals and she shot a 60 to take 12th place in the 22 player field.
QuincyTonight in high school sports, in volleyball, it’s Coldwater at home against Parma Western and we’ll have the match on the radio with the first serve scheduled for 6:30 and our live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 beginning at 6:15. Also, Class-C top-ranked Bronson plays at home against Centreville. And in Boys tennis this afternoon, Coldwater hosts Vicksburg. Today on the Coaches Corner, it’s Bronson football coach Dan Burzynski.
In middle school sports yesterday, in volleyball, Coldwater earned 3 wins at home over Jackson Lumen Christi, taking each match 2-0. In the 8th grade A match, Bailey Burkhardt had 10 points with 2 kills, Olivia Foley had 6 assists, and Carlee Crabtree had 4 kills. In the 7th grade match, Kaia Donay was 8-for-8 serving with 2 aces. Abby Herman had 4 digs and 4 kills while Mia Rzepka had 4 assists. And in the 7th grade B match, Allysa Stevens was the serving leader with 7 points.
